لانه لايوجد تكتم اعلامي على الصفقات فكيف لم نعرف ان لدينا هذه الاعداد .! وللعلم الموقع يتحدث عن الان وليس سابقا

Negative. That number has nothing to do with reality. So far Iraq has zero combat jets. The Air Force consists only of several dozens of helicopters, trainers, and propeller-driven transports and reconnaissance aircraft.
Over the past few months there have been reports about plans to buy 18-36 F-16s from the US, as well as 36 L-159 light attack/trainers from the Czech Republic...also some rumors about early negotiations about T-50 and Hawk trainers, but nothing has been purchased.

It actually amazes me that the Iraqi military brass and MOD have simply never come to the conclusion of using Offset agreements to speed up the arming and development of the Military.

surely plenty of weapons suppliers are tripping over each other to sell to this virgin market which has a relatively huge shopping list of requirements from artillery, tanks, APCs, trucks, to fighter aircraft, helicopters and a maritime and AEW requirements..

Hyder please can you explain to us what you mean by Offset agreements

An Offset agreement is where Iraq would agree to buy, lets say $5Bn in weapons on the condition that the country producing the weapons makes an investment in Iraqi infrastructure or buys Iraqi goods (non oil) worth $5Bn (or more).

Using this method, for example Iraq can use funds allocated for housing development and power stations to buy the weapons quickly, whilst the country selling the weapons build and operates power stations in Iraq. This way Iraq gets both its needed weapons and power stations.
