Torpedoe Boats Type P-6

After the establishment of the Republic of Iraq in July 14, 1958. The Iraqi government moved towards the former Soviet Union to build the Iraqi armed forces and the purchase of Soviet weapons. The riverine force has only four ancient river vessels and a number of boats. Iraq has contracted to purchase a number of torpedo boats and patrol vessels other formed a major shift valuable renovating and equipping the Iraqi riverine force. Indeed, they has reached the first batch of boats, consisting of 3 motor torpedo boats Soviet-made type P-6 on 27/11/1959. Followed by three other boats for a total of 6 torpedo boats P-6. Remained in service until 1975.

I wish to add that, according to Janes Fighting Ships 1981-1982.The Iraqi riverine force, obtained in 1961 another 6 boats for a total of 12 boats in servic with Iraqi Navy and some of their names were the following:-

Al Adrisi
Al Bahi
Al Shaab
Al Tami
Alef
Al Said
Ramadan
Tareq Ben Zaiad

And others 4 boats. The pennant numbers include 217-222
