The T-55 and T-62 were both widespread in Iraqi service. Was there a difference in the units that were assigned the T-55s/Type 59s, the Type 69s and T-62s? Surely, since the T-62 had a better gun and the Type 69 was more capable than the standard T-55A variant there must have been in a difference in who got them?
Were Type 69s and T-62s usually given to better/higher priority units or were they just assigned indiscriminately? I am aware that all three tank types (55, 69 and 62) served in the regular army, as opposed to the T-72 being concentrated only among the Republican Guard.

T-62 tanks were used by armoured divisions. (it has a separate thread).
The T55 / Type-69 were used by all standard infantry and mech divisions in the army... in fact the Type-69 is still in use today in infantry divisions.

Thank you very much for clarification Hayder. I looked for something on this a long time ago but couldn't find good information until now. Thanks!
