Nothing about the Avengers from DSCA?

I know. it is a mystery, only became apparent from the SIGIR report (so it is official!).

yes indeed. it is however better than NOTHING. This would be equivelant of the SA-13 in the old Iraqi army. I wish Iraq would buy the Pantsir-S1 for low altitude work, BUK for medium altitude and S400 for strategic defence.

with the avenger now bought. it could be that Iraq will look for the SLAMRAAM for its medium range air defence weapon, which would leave the Patriot as the only candidate for high altitude work.

Hayder--I was thinking about SLAMRAAM too, but given that the US doesn't want to sell AMRAAM missiles to equip the F-16IQs, I will assume the SLAMRAAM is out of the question too.

The latest SIGIR report has clarified that Iraq has received 8 AVENGER air defence systems for $105M including additional early warning radars and command and control equipment.

8 "systems" means 8 "batteries"... I am not sure how many firing units are included in an Iraqi battery... but expect it to be 4-6 launch vehicles.

على اي حال تركيا طورت رادار للمنظومة هذه لكشف اهداف ضمن مدى الصاروخ الستينجر ولااعلم ان كانت هنالك تحسينات ملحوظة عليها

I found this reference in a story in the New York Times dated 9/24.

"The United States is providing Iraq with refurbished antiaircraft guns, free of charge, but they will not arrive until June. In the meantime, the Iraqis have collected cold war-era missiles found in a junkyard on an air base north of Baghdad, and they are trying to get them in working order."
