Egyptian S300Vs are a different colour.
India IS a possibility though... but they don't usually "hide" their purchase like Iraq does.


a third "possibility" is that they are shipping these to Syria...


but still. Iraq is the "strongest" candidate based upon:
-colour
-secrecy
-past reports on Iraq purchasing "strategic SAMs" for $210M per unit.

I agree about the indian colours. but india would have openly bought them...

since this is going to a "coy" customer I have a strong suspicion its either iraq or syria.

But lets wait and see...

I disagree about our lack of need. we have absolutely "minimal" air defence now. and the air defence command is buying radars from France, Comms system from China... these we know. We also know from the small "leak" in 2013 about the first Contract with Russia for "missile systems costing $210M each"... that leak was nearly 3 years ago. So I would not dismiss the idea that these are for Iraq.

Saudi, Turkey (both of whom are hostile) can easily have air superiority
Iran (which may not be hostile now... but can certainly "turn") can easily shower Iraq with long range missiles

To have at least a "visible" air defence system has a lot of political repercussions in our ability to negotiate with our neighbours. if they think we're defenceless... which we are today... we get the political treatment that our "weight" deserves. But if they think that they can't destroy us so easily... then they may negotiate with Iraq with a different tone.

WIthin that context air defence IS an essential part of our political defensive structure even within this current war.

the defence and security committee in parliament are idiots...

many things have been delivered from russia and china in total secrecy that only became apparent later or via small "clues"...

1- CH-4B UCAV from china... clue from the model on the desk of the MOD. later on leaked image from Kut AB... all before anyone "spoke" of it or "leaked" it.
2- Mi-28Ne helicopter... no official confirmation until we saw it - similarly for the radars for it. even the numbers from the defence committee were all wrong... the russian annual reports gave us the true numbers, as well as the army aviation commander statement about "radars for the helicopters"... which people were skeptical about at the time.
3- T72B and Toofan from Iran...
4- The Russian bridge layers.
5- The TOS-1A
6- the 2S19 SP-Howitzers... that Iraq ordered then had to "cancel"! never mentioned or "leaked" by Iraqis at all.
7- An-158 and An-178 from Ukraine... Ukrainian head of antonov mentioned it last year without any news or mention by iraqis yet.

basically iraqi arms purchase from sources other than the US/EU are a bit unclear and well hidden.

at the same time iraqi parliament and defence committee and iraqi "bloggers and media" go on about contracts which were never signed like:
-Ah64E apache
-AT-6C
-175 M1A1 abrams
-220 M2A2 Bradleys
-500 MTLBs from Bulgaria
etc...
