Just finished reading February volume of Combat Aircraft Magazine, it contained an excellent article about the Russian Air Force campaign over Syria, including an analysis of the shoot down of RuAF Su-24 by THK F-16s. Another interesting article about RuAF Tu-160 with some amazing photos.

February issue of AFM includes two important articles, the first one about Saudi Typhoons: apparantly the Saudis were the first to start gunnery training & to drop air to ground weapons from Tranche 2 Typhoons. it is noted that the RSAF opted for the Damocles pod for its Typhoons vs the Litening pod used by other Typhoon operators. & the Saudis are building the Damocles under license! The Saudi Typhoons are participating in the air campaign against Daesh using Paveway II & IV LGBs. Starting June 2015, tranche 3 Typhoons are being delivered.
the second important article is an interview with the Commander of the RJAF. the RJAF operates 43 upgraded F-16AM/BM & is waiting to receive 15 more. It recently received 8 IOMAX AT-802 COIN aircrafts from UAE. The F-5 was retired from Lead In Fighter Training in 2014 & were replaced by 13 ex-UAEAF Hawk Mk 63. The C-101CC will be phased too & replaced by Pilatus PC-9M.

March issue of combat aircraft contained an article titled "MiG Killers of Desert Storm", recounting the action of January 27th 1991, when Capt Jay 'OP' Denney & Capt Ben 'Coma' Powell engaged & shot down 3 MiG-23s & 1 Mirage F-1. It concludes by saying that the Coalition shot down 42 Iraqi fighters during the war, 37 of which were shot down by F-15s.
Key Publications will issue a special volume looking back at the air war over the gulf 25 years ago.

Just finished reading Key publication Vietnam & Gulf war specials. The Gulf war volume is a special edition for the 25th anniversary of the conflict. Its 100 pages contains a lot of technical information about the aircrafts that participated in the conflict, unfortunately, the Iraqi Air Force was received 2 pages only! It actually confirms that a MiG-29 damaged a B-52, it list an F-111 & Tornado as probable. It acknowledges the now well known fact that a MiG-25PDS shot down a USN F/A-18C, although interestingly, it claims that Speicher's F/A-18 was shot down by a SAM!!
It also acknowledges that the engagement in which an EF-111A Raven claimed it manoeuvred a Mirage F-1 to hit the ground is "erroneous".
The Vietnam war volume is much more developed & includes information about the campaign as a whole.

March issue of AFM included interesting news & articles: in the news the arrival of 2 more F016IQ to Balad on February second 2016, & refers to the $2bn request for F-16 weapons. Another important news id the arrival the second batch of Rafales to Egypt.
An important article "Destination Daesh" compares US & Allied weapons to Russian weapons in the campaign against Daesh in Syria & Iraq. The writer of course compared the extensive use of PGMs by western allies compared to the much more limited use of these weapons by the Russians.
In "terrorist hunters" Babak Taghvaee shed light on the Libyan National Air Force (LNAF) MiG-21s & their operation against Daesh & other religious militia in Libya. flying a combination of MiG-21MFs, Bis & UMs, these old birds are constantly flying to target Daesh & other terrorists in Libya! Some of the MFs variant were donated by Egypt, which also help in maintaining the fleet.

May issue of Combat Aircraft included the following interesting news & articles:
1- Kuwait cleared funds for 28 Tranche 3 Typhoons from Italy! the Kuwaiti Typhoons will have AESA radars & compatible with Storm Shadow stand-off cruise missile. We can all see now how inadequate are IrAF F-16s compared to other neighbouring & regional air forces!
2- the final F-16C of the first batch of IrAF order flew with a serial number of 1618.
3- The venerable SEM is retiring from service with the French Navy in July, will be replaced by Rafale M.
4- Libyan National Air Force continue to receive MiG-21s & Mi-8s from Egypt.
5- An interesting article about the UAE developed Bell 407MRH, capable of carrying Hellfire missiles.
6- an interesting article about Su-17/20/22 in service with various air forces. Of note is the fact that 10 ex-Iraqi Su-22M3K & M4K were overhauled by Pars Aviation facility & offered to IRIAF, who refused them! They were taken by IRGC & donated to SyAAF!
Other articles covered the development of HAL Tejas, the current status of F-35 & many other issues!

August 2016 Air Forces Monthly contained a very interesting article about the new Saudi F-15SA! Comparing our F-16s with the advanced jets being procured & operated by neighbouring countries, it's evident that our airframes needs serious upgrades!! I don't know how is this going to happen with the financial crises, the corrupt politicians running Baghdad & the massive Iranian influence over the ruling parties. Is the solution heading east to obtain Su-30s, in spite of their questionable serviceability & problems with spares, or consider another option (Gripens, may be?)! Anyway, everything has to wait until the defeat of Daesh! & let's see who will be a the helm of the MoD!

December issue of AFM contained an article about the role of Air power in the battle of Mosul, nothing interesting really! I really wanted to read about the role of the IQAF & IQAAC in the context of the coalition air effort!
