Would the General be interested in publishing an english translation in Europe? I would certainly participate with him in that venture if he was interested.

This topic is so essential... its why me and Khalid started this forum in the first place! We really want to publish a concise encyclopedia of Iraqi military history... now I understand that hte general wants to have publishing rights and royalties from the Book... which is why I think we should make a paperback publication in Europe / North America in English... possibly illustrated with pictures from the archives of Iraqi officers!

I am here to work out the details of how this venture can go ahead.

Just started reading "The Iran-Iraq War" by Pierre Razoux, it contains some interesting information about the role the US, Israel, UK, & other countries: including Syria & Libya played in arming the Iranian regime. It gives an unflattering account of both the Iraqi 1st strike "operation echo of Al Qaddyssia" although he admits that the IrAF objective was never to destroy the IRIAF on the ground, rather causing maximum damage to the air bases in order to limit the effectiveness of the IRIAF over the battle field. "Operation Kaman" is also drawn in a negative light, as the damage caused by the IRIAF was not severe, & the losses were high! I will keep posting any interesting bits of information!

Just finished reading Razoux book: it did not contain any new informations, repeating the claims that Iraq lost around 244 aircrafts while Iran lost 70 in the air to air engagements & that Iranian pilots dominated Air to Air battles. However, he does admit that the Iraqis were more imaginative & daring, dominated the skies in the second half of the war & had a destructive impact on both the troops on the ground & industrial targets. He admits that the sinking of the USS Stark was caused by a modified Falcon-50 carrying 2 Exocets. He also claims that Iran provided the Soviet Union with an F-14 to study & test fly. Overall Iraqi Air losses are exaggerated & his information regarding Air to Air battles are outdated.
His assessment of the Iraqi ground forces is generally favourable & he considered that Iran was defeated militarily in 1988, but the victory was pyrrhic & just served to increase Saddam delusions of Grandiosity.

Regarding the book by Razoux:
the author writes that King Hussein made Jordanian F1's available to Iraq (about the time when Iraq received its own F1EQs),
with about 10 of them flying under Iraqi colors ... and that ~15 Jordanian pilots were flying Iraqi Mirages throughout the entire war....

That sounds very unlikely to me.
Jordanian F1's .. the first Iraqi F1EQs arrived in Iraq in late January 1981 and became operational from ~ mid-1981.
Jordan received its first F1CJ from January 1981 too, but that excludes time for the training of the own pilots.
And the F1CJ had a entirely different avionics equipment. Jordan received its first F1EJ (equivalent to the F1EQ) not before June 1982.

Not to mention that the Jordanian F1CJ wore the light blue air defense color scheme... imagine the jets "under Iraqi colors" ... :-o

Whole story doesn't fit.
