Greetings from Austria
Greetings from Austria
Hello everbody,
my name is Tom Cooper, and I'm from Vienna, Austria.
Some here might know me as a researcher, journalist and historian about Arab and other Middle Eastern-, as well as various African air forces, and an author or co-author of such books like "Iraqi Fighters 1953-2003: Camouflage & Markings", "Arab MiGs, Volume 1", or "Arab MiG-19 & MiG-21 Units in Combat".
Hope, I can participate on this forum in a useful fashion, talk with many Iraqi participants, enthusiasts, and historians, also learn a lot. And, who knows, perhaps sometimes I might be of some help too.
Best wishes to everybody!

Re: Greetings from Austria
Hello Tom!
It is an honor to have you here with us
I am following ACIG silently since a while, lurking in forums and reading articles, etc...
And you are really doing a very good job indeed.
Looking for more achievements from you!
Thank you very much...

Re: Greetings from Austria
Many thanks for your wellcome, gentlemen!
Hope, we can all find out and learn a lot about the Iraqi armed forces here (oh, and sorry if I always answer in English only: my Arabic is still quite rudimentary, and even if I try, I'd have to type it in Latin letters too).

Re: Greetings from Austria
Alsalamu Alaukim Mr. Cooper
I've read most of your articles in ACIG ... liked much but i didn't like the ones of Arab-Israeli maybe because i am a huge fan of Gamal AbdulNasser
But anyway hello in the forum that i also just joined ..
PS/ I translated some of your Articles about IqAF and IIrAF to Arabic ,, i always saw that you are more good judgement maker in the Iraqi conflicts ,, still not as in the Israeli conflicts were i saw that you were very in the backing side of the Zionists
Regards

Re: Greetings from Austria
Salam, al-Bohaya,
glad to hear from you, and thank you for greetings!
As a typical Austrian, I'm neutral: not trying to "back" any side, but simply find out what happened. Therefore, I always depend on the quality of information I get: the more information I get about Arab air forces, the more and better I can report about them.
It's been many years since articles like the ones on the ACIG.org website you mentioned have been written: thanks to many very kind and very friendly gentlemen in Egypt, Iraq and Syria, I have got much better information ever since.
I think that you might want to try getting one of my recently publishing books, such like "Iraqi Fighters" or "Arab MiGs Volume 1", and see how much more better information is now available - in text, but also in photos and other illustrations.
Best wishes,
Tom
