Iraq requests military equipment to bolster counter-terrorism capabilities

The Iraqi government has requested the sale of military equipment from the United States valued at USD981 million, the Defense Security and Cooperation Agency (DSCA) announced on 13 May.

Under three separate requests, valued at USD790 million, USD101 million, and USD90 million respectively, Iraq has requested the sale of 24 Beechcraft AT-6C Texan II light attack aircraft, 200 armoured Humvee ground vehicles, and 14 Aerostat tower systems (including seven Aerostats). All requests are being made to enhance Iraq's counter-terrorism capabilities and to protect key infrastructure.

The proposed sale of 24 AT-6C twin-seat turboprop light-attack and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft, also covers spare engines, navigation equipment, AN/AAR-47 missile launch detectionm, and AN/ALE-47 countermeasures dispensing systems, as well as parts, training, contractor support, and other ancillary services.

The DSCA is silent on ordnance. I recall that the F-16IQ notification included a list of ordnance, right? Maybe MOD opted to procure that from a separate source?

And according to Aviation week's article the AT-6C is powered by a 1,600-shp Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-68D engine that has 45% more power than the basic -68 engine that powers the T-6 Texan II trainer. It also has a new wider chord Hartzell four-blade prop to convert the extra torque into thrust. The upgraded engine and prop add weight to the nose of the AT-6C, but that’s offset by removing ballast from the engine compartment.

The 500-shp increase helped the AT-6C better meet the conditions of the LAS (Light Attack Support) system requirements document issued by the U.S. Air Force. It stipulated that candidate aircraft must be able to carry two crew, two 50-caliber machine guns, two GBU-12 Mk 82 500-lb bombs and an electro-optical/infrared sensor ball, in addition to cockpit and engine armor, a chaff and flares dispenser and enough fuel to complete a three-hour mission profile.

Other requirements include a HUD, NVG-compatible cockpit displays, zero-zero ejection seats, front and rear multifunction displays and the ability to cruise at at least 250 KTAS at 10,000 ft with the prescribed LAS weapons load.

Production AT-6Cs will be able to carry 3,350 lb of external stores on seven stations, including MIL-SPEC-1760 “smart weapons” such as Paveway II laser-guided 250-lb and 500-lb bombs, laser-guided 2.75-in rockets and GPS-guided munitions, plus Hellfire missiles. Conventional external stores include twin 50-caliber RN Herstal HMP-400LC guns each carrying 400 rounds of ammunition, Mk 81 250-lb and Mk 82 500-lb bombs and LAU-68/131 rocket pods. Four of the wing stations are plumbed for external fuel tanks.

yes the AT6C is NOT for training. it is a "LAAR" aircraft. Light Attack Armed Reconnaissance.


but I think Iraq won't buy it....

The only items Iraq has actually "contracted" for with the US over the past year or so have been for "smaller" items... hellfire missiles, some ground based radars, lots of service and maintenance contracts...

They never took:
20x "optional" IA-407 scout helos
16x "UH 60 Blackhawks" (went quiet a long time ago)
16x AB-412 SAR helos (went all quiet)
50x NBC Strykers (this was shot down by parliament defence committee)
175x Abrams tanks (already from last year... and lo and behold, 2 weeks ago Iraqi MOD confirmed that the division operating Abrams tanks is training for... T90s!)
200x Bradleys (BMP3Ms are "semi confirmed" now by an officer in the MOD)
3x HAWK XXI battalions (Russian SAMs are confirmed but types beyond the Pantsir/IGLA have not been confirmed)
24x Ah64E Apaches (Iraqis are "holding" this until they can test the Mi28Ne)
6x Ah64D "loan" apaches (no point if the Mi28Ne helos arrive soon, and no contract has been awarded although "just in case" some Iraqi pilots are training on the type).
.... and more.

the only things they took recently were some hellfires, ammo for guns, and billions in support and maintenance contracts...


Nowadays the DSCA notifications for Iraq mean very little. If the Iraqi MOD even want to include a US item in an "internal competition" they have to put a request for DSCA to see if congress is happy to sell the item or not. All it really tells us is what type of weapon the Iraqis are probably buying from Russia. Also, the "anti corruption" rules means they have to include an "alternative" supplier for an item they're getting in order to please the parliament's audit committee on transparency and all that nonsense... so you see massive things like last year's big "air defence" DSCA announcement for $2Bn+... which then goes quiet without any contract award and Russian An-124s coming weekly to Baghdad Airport unloading "stuff"...



From this weeks' "DSCA shopping list" the only ones I can see them buying for sure are:
the 7 aerostats (although the "scandal" about the operational readiness of the existing aerostats puts that in jeopardy too).
the 200 HUMVEES (since they already have 2 field factories dedicated for their 10,000+ fleet of HUMVEES)... but there has also been talk with Korea and Russia about "local production" of a new 4x4 for the army... so lets wait and see what transpires.

The AT6C must be in a competition with something from Russia... and although it has "synergies" with the existing T6A fleet and the King Air 350I ISR planes as well as armaments (hellfires, LGBs, western GP bombs and rockets)... we shall see what "counter offer" the russians have in place... it may even be in competition against chinese armed UAVs... in which case I'd expect the chinese armed UAV to win.

لكن لادري مادخل قائد القوة الجوية بعرض مروحيات الان اف اج 90 النسخة البحرية المضادة للسفن -غوصات .......

بمناسبة عيد القوة الجوية العراقية قام السيد قائد القوات الجوية برعاية حفل تخرج مجموعة من فينيين اصلاح هياكل الطائرات حضره الكثير من منتسبي القوة الجوية وطيران الجيش والقى قائد القوات الجوية كلمة بهذم المناسبة قال فيها هنالك مفاوضات مبدئية مع فرنسا بعد ان عرضت لنا دعمنا بسرب من طائرات الرافال المتعددة المهام على هامش قمة بغداد لمكافحة الارهاب وقال الرافال طائرة حديثة ومتفوقة بكل المقاييس وستضيف للعراق حماية جوية ممتازه بالاضافة الي امكانها القيام بعمليات الهجوم والاسناد البحري بصوارخ اكزوسيت كذلك اكد انه عرض علينا بعض مروحيات NH90 محملة بصواريخ جو بحر واشار الى اننا في الطريق الصحيح لاعادة بناء قوة جوية قادرة على حماية ارض وسماء العراق

الدفاع تدعو منتسبي القوة الجوية من الفنيين في الجيش السابق الراغبين بالعودة للمراجعة

دعت وزارة الدفاع، الاثنين، منتسبي القوة الجوية من الفنيين في الجيش السابق الراغبين بالعودة مراجعة لجنة استقبال القوة الجوية في مقر قيادة القوة الجوية.

وقالت الوزارة في بيان تلقت "السومرية نيوز" نسخة منه، إن "وزارة الدفاع قيادة القوة الجوية تدعو منتسبي القوة الجوية من الفنيين في الجيش السابق الراغبين بالعودة مراجعة لجنة استقبال القوة الجوية في مقر القيادة لتقديم طلباتهم مستصحبين معهم هوية الاحوال المدنية اصلية ومصورة وشهادة الجنسية العراقية اصلية ومصورة وبطاقة السكن اصلية ومصورة وبطاقة تموينية اصلية ومصورة وتاييد سكن حديث".

وكانت وزارة الدفاع اعلنت في (الرابع من ايار الحالي) أن رئيس الوزراء نوري المالكي وافق على دعوة مراتب الجيش السابق الراغبين بالتطوع من الصنوف الفنية.

على ذمة نفس المنتسب في القوة الجوية

الي اكيد يااخي الله يسلمك هو 24 مروحية مي 28 موزعين بي مجموعتين قتاليتين التاجي وال الحبانية وعدد 12 مي 35 قسم منها في قاعدة الاسد (كما حدث في الغاره الاخيره على داعش الذل والرذالة داخل الاراضي السورية دير الزور تحديدا) وتعمل ايضا مع القوات العمليات الخاصة والباقي كاموف 52 ( عدد 4) وهذا هوالخبر الصحيح 100% واكتمال العدد انشاء الله بنهاية 2015 اما التسليح فهو على 3 مراحل باستثناء سام 24 للدعم الجوي القريب فهو خارج الصفقة ولم يطلب اصلا... والف تحية لك
